“You have the right to anything that’s not forbidden by the law”

Quoting from Catch-22, that is the most politically correct statement I’ve heard in my life. Seriously.
Singaporeans tell me “You can do anything, just don’t get caught”. lol.

One is telling you that you’re entitled to do anything that pleases you which the law doesn’t bother legislating, while the other one’s telling you to be an intelligent offender. Maybe my Singaporean friends should follow the Catch-22 principle. At least you don’t have to worry about being caught at all. The only thing is you’ll hafta know the law by heart. Which might be a tall order for the ordinary man who doesn’t know a thing about legal jargon or, hell, bother to read the news everyday.
Perhaps somebody can come up with a book that tells people which are the laws, or lack thereof, in Singapore that backs you up by being absent from the books. lol. There are so many ridiculous “offences” listed (and the atrocity of new items added to the list is increasing), I wish there’s a list of what I can do that won’t get me fined…

Criminal tendencies aside,
Akan Datang: I’m about to start selling novels from my personal collection from next week.. They’re mostly English publications that I bought over the last few years. I’m running out of space. Since everybody’s been asking to borrow books from me and I need to save up for a laptop, I might as well sell it to friends who’re willing to pay a token for them. I promise I’ll only sell good reads. ;)

Watch out for another link at the top of the page!

Thanks to Eugene, I got a good laugh to chase my misery away for a while. lol.

I failed my commercial law by 3 friggin marks. And I got to know about my result more than one week after the rest of the results of my other subjects were sent to me. WHY? Because the friggin chief examiner in London resigned and the new one expected the same competency from me, a business student, as they would from a LLB student!!
In the 1st year of studies, a similar thing happened with my Criminal Law exam. Only the chief examiner kicked the bucket. Is it just my bad luck with law examiners or sth? I feel so damn CURSED. Damn! They should follow exam protocol from year to year and not let any new arsehole create havoc and fail everybody! Sheesh. I am SO pissed. I am a Bsc Management with Law student with University of London’s external programme. I am not a LLB student trying to make the bar to practise friggin commonwealth law! Show me some mercy! I have another diploma to take… *sniff*

But I shall not be gotten. God has just answered my prayer from my previous entry. Now I am stressed, I shall be working harder than before. Just you wait, you friggin new examiner. I’ll score a first class paper for you to see. Humph!

This week has been rather unproductive.. I didn’t work out much because I pulled a muscle and it’s a study break too. When I get too much free time on my hands, I get lazy and paranoid towards the end cuz I haven’t been doing things that I planned before this.

What did I achieve for myself this week? Just a flimsy 2 page proposal for my graduation project in softcopy, some reading for my Club Management exam this saturday morning, more fatty-tissue-accumulation due to lack of exercise & a pair of new sandals which I was compelled to buy out of necessity (my heels were causing my feet to skin themselves).

That’s all.

I’m seriously in need of stress. This year’s supposed to be my final year in academia. My last hundred meter sprint. Ok, granted, I haven’t got my commercial law result yet (might be getting it tomorrow cuz RELC called to confirm my address this afternoon) so I can’t exactly send out my continuing registration to London with my choice of subjects for my final year, and I’ll hafta wait for a bit more before I get my study guides and stuff.. I can’t do much for my Canadian visa which needs to be renewed cuz Hunn hasn’t mailed me the invitation letter…But still. What’s wrong with me?! A little bit of free time on my hands and I freak out about not achieving something important to myself. Sheesh.

I need to be more zen. I need a plan. Use Karl (Marx). Commodity fetishism. Retail therapy’s women’s most natural emotional cure. Hence I shall draw up a shopping list.

1. Laptop. Just need it to be light-weight and has more storage memory so I can keep all my research stuff plus my music. Long battery life is a must too. Any recommendations?
2. Library card. I hate to borrow novels from the library especially if I love them, but I need to save money for item no. 1. SGD20 bucks a year is a pretty gd deal.
3. Clothes. Well don’t say duh just yet. I mean I need clothes for school. My friggin school wants me to wear black or white tops from mondays to thursdays. Hmm.
4. Tracy, Shehla and Haze’s birthday presents.

Need to do these…(other than studying real hard for the monthly exams)

1. Get Canadian visa done asap.
2. Prep Haze’s birthday party music. She’s put me in charge to set the mood. I can’t let her down. Need to download limewire soon. All those songs. And visit THAT CD SHOP for inspiration. Hope they have a warehouse sale.
3. Send my UOL documents by speedpost as soon as I get my commercial law result!!
4. Get booking slip from SIA. (for item no.1)
5. Check out spas packages (for final item in previous list)
6. Think of Hunn’s Christmas present. (Tying a ribbon around myself & flying myself to Vancouver might do the trick but still… )
7. Workout once I recover to attain Jessica Alba’s bod (by Christmas). hehehe.
Yes! I already feel like I’m all hyped up with adrenalin.. :D
Sidenote: I’d really love to work with UNIFEM when I can afford the time. Anyone has any connections to any organisations that help women? I’ll volunteer after my graduation next september!

I don’t usually keep myself updated on how well the Earth’s doing with regard to how much time before Armagaeddon, but this really grabbed my attention..

Kivalina, AlaskaImagine Singapore’s up there in Alaska. In about 20 years there will be no more Singapore. It’s pretty frightening come to think about it, since Singapore is afterall an island, albeit not in the Arctic. It’s only a matter of time.

Mr Bean and the Nativity Set

Male Restroom Etiquette

Thought I’d hafta spend lunch time alone again because my GP (A level english subject) student cancelled out on me last minute AGAIN… Not that I blame her because her school is such a bitch? But you know, it’s just that I could’ve planned something on a FRIDAY if I knew I had the day free??

Anyways, bumped into my classmate, Johan, who ironically is going to be my classmate for the last day since he’s completed 12 months of study, and it so happened that he was going for lunch alone too! So we went to collect my ring (from Joey! *grinz*) which I sent for repolishing together from City Link Mall and had lunch at Raffles City SC. Had a really nice talk about our childhood, bitching about S’pore, and life in general. It’s good to know someone shares the notion that working life in S’pore just doesn’t seem attractive enough.

Somehow whenever I chat with friends from foreign lands, the topic of the importance of decent spoken English always comes up. That, and how stifling and not-retirement-location S’pore is. My apologies to my apathetic & patriotic sg’rean friends, but I’m not alone when I say: I’ll get my education here, I’ll come here for holidays, but you can’t pay me to work here. Yes, the food’s dirt cheap. Yes, transport is convenient. Yes, it’s relatively safe to go out in the day & at night. But I’ll choose Malaysia’s cheap & tasty food, Seoul’s transport system (which is equally convenient as S’pore’s), & Vancouver’s friendly atmosphere any day.
Plus, I can’t stand wearing my power suit someday in the near future in this sweltering heat! Yes I don’t mind stocking up a wardrobe full of winter coats and knitwear and whatnot. I was so envious of Anne Hathaway in My Devil Wears Prada. LOL. Suddenly I sound so air-head. But ask ANY girl. She’ll tell you the clothes, shoes and bags in the show are worthy of shrieks and sighs of envy.

Anyways, I digress. At the end of lunch, Johan told me I remind him of a Filipino friend, Emma, he knows. It’s deja vu again, seriously, I’ve lost count of how many people who’ve been telling me I remind them of this mysterious friend they know. Seriously, why don’t I meet anyone who makes me go “Wait a minute, she’s talking just like me!”??
I’m feeling super ambivalent about this, because. On one hand, I thought everyone’s got a unique personality no matter how common 2 people’s background may be..SO does this mean I’m just an average, common organism walking as an Earthling? On the other hand, people actually have met someone who behaves a lot like me, and no one’s complaining much so far, which means I’m normal. :D I’ll opt for the latter. heh.

Sidenote: One of my favourite books, Hotel Babylon, in my personal collection is now a BBC drama series! To think I picked up the book earlier this year in a book fair at only SGD5 at Park Mall…! I can’t wait to get my hands on the dvd! It’s got really good reviews so far.. :D Yay… I suspect this might just be my 2nd addiction after Ally McBeal!
Peeps who wanta read the book can borrow it from me as long as you promise to return in a week’s time. :)

I have this really big green skirt, a gift from Joey, that I really² really love.. And i wore it yesterday. I think I raved about it before in my previous livejournal blog. But since I only wear it once in a blue moon (cuz it’s so precious and my sch’s a bitch when it comes to attire), yesterday’s named after the skirt. :)

Caught The Devil wears Prada in the afternoon..Meryl Streep’s acting is pretty good.. And needless to say, I LOVE Anne Hathaway’s clothes! It’s all winter fashion! lol.

Met Nive and her sister Vashimi at Kino aft the movie.. and then dinner.. It’s amazing how most of the books they picked out are already in my collection. lol. Maybe I should start renting out books. :p

Neways, I was reading about the IMF and how the sg’rean government is disallowing street protests.. Then it finally dawned on me that sg’reans themselves are not only so apathetic, they expect the rest of the world to be like them too. It’s like saying “you shalt not visit unless you’re prepared to lose all rights to individuality” lol. It’s crap. You can’t even have a peaceful protest. Relax and learn, people!

On to a happier note, going shopping for lingerie with my Ma tmr. hehe. Always good to have the parent around to pay for your shopping. And times like this will end once i start working. *look of horror & total shock*
I should ask my Ma out for tea and shopping more often.

I can’t stand taking the MRT sometimes. There has been an increase of bad air syndrome among commuters. And they ALWAYS chat on the phone right beside me. With the ladies, it’s bad breath. With men, it’s over-whelming cologne (usually CK be or one or the really uncle-smelling type) or body odour!! @.@ And it doesn’t help that I got quite a sensitive nose. Sigh.
I’m just trying to read my book in peace and they’ll be yakking and emitting bad air right beside me. I mean, go on, go ahead and pretend there’s no one else on the train. Be like that. Be the inconsiderate commuter and make my life like an opened flood gate while I try to blow my runny nose WHILE trying to read. As if my subtle, obviously uncomfortable shuffle in my seat & a meaningful glance of warning in their direction doesn’t send a message strong enough.

People. Hate to live with them, would rather live without them.

Sidenote: Am reading Catch-22 by Joseph Heller now… LOVE it.

Is it the weather? Or long-overdue visits to the dentist? Or just plain bad luck on my part??? All i can do is scoot.
If you have a friend with personal hygiene problems, PLEASE let them know, for the sake of Humanity’s noses…

Met up with Shuwen today for late lunch at Raffles City; the basement’s totally revamped! So many new shops and restaurants to check out. Shopped around the place and found Skin Food, a Korean based cosmetics & skin care company. Bought the T-U face mask and a Bordeaux face mask! Gonna try the loot tonight. hehe. Settled for the crepe place at the basement, the one you can’t miss as you go down the escalator. Shuwen had the black pepper beef while I, the seafood thingy. Scallops and Prawns. Pretty good. Had a healthy side of green salad dribbled with olive oil. Yumm. I’d strongly recommend the Peking Duck crepe which I had the last time I went there with Yilun. It was simply deelish. :)

Shopped ard the place to wait for out lunch to digest, then being girls, we couldn’t resist the lure of Bakerz Inn.. Shuwen had the Ice cream Waffle while I, the Coupe Cheesecake. Both were equally celestial and we finished them in about 15mins. Worthy sins. Our taste buds were happy. :D

As if to prove our gluttony, we ventured around the mall and ended up at *gasp* Marks & Spencer’s food section! Shuwen strongly recommended the canned soups (which I checked had less than 5% fat content). I got the Broccoli & Asparagus soups. hehehe. Breaky is settled then. Waltzed around the atrium where the International wine and beer fair was held and I bought a bottle of Spanish Sangria at only SGD16! Couldn’t forget the taste of sangria I had at the Mexican restaurant in Vancouver. Gotta learn how to make tortillas & salsa now. hehehe.

Food aside, the catching up was great.. As usual, we blabbered non-stop about school, relationships, family, etc. That’s something guys can never figure out. How do we keep having so much to talk about? Well. It’s a girl thing, pardon the cliche. & desserts just keep the conversation flowing seamlessly & endlessly. Might be the sugar rush. heh. ;)
